More Bad News about Statins
A new study finds that despite earlier propaganda, statin drugs do not reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. And there are numerous reports of statin-induced memory loss, confusion, disorientation and severe fatigue. One frightening study reported several cases of transient global amnesia (TGA) associated with statin use.
One example: Flight surgeon and NASA astronaut Dr. Duane Graveline reported that he lost all concept of time and was amnesic for almost an entire day after starting on statin drugs to combat elevated cholesterol levels. The entire period was wiped clean from his memory. Fortunately, he eventually remembered everything again.
It appears that statin drugs interfere with synaptic function, which is necessary for brain communication. A loss of synaptic function signals the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.
