Here We Go Again!
Just heard a report on ABC from Diane Sawyer that women with cardiovascular risk factors should be placed on Statin drugs. They claim that the women in the study had a reduction in cardiovascular events of 19%. Therefore every woman with risk factors should be on the drug.
HOWEVER according to Harvard researchers who reported that women in the university's Nurses Health Study who used aspirin regularly had a 39% lower risk of heart attack, and a 12% lower risk of getting cancer.
OK which would you rather take, a statin drug that is dangerous and filled with bad side effects for a 19% reduction of cardiovascular events or an aspirin a day which does not have the large side effect profile of statin and reduces the risk by 39%
